Bauchi State Governor Declares Free Education For Primary, Secondary Schools
The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has declared free education for primary and secondary school levels in government-owned schools.
In this regard, a circular was issued on Monday by Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tilde, explaining that, primary education is free of all charges, while secondary school pupils will only pay a uniform single annual charge of N700.
The circular direct that, all payments by parents should be made directly into Treasury Single Account (TSA), and such payments could be staggered by parents during the school sessions.
The state government, however, exempted orphans and vulnerable children from the charges.
The education commissioner also warned school managements from preventing their students’ access as a result of inability to pay the charges.
He emphasized that parents are responsible for the payment and students should never be sent home for non-payment.
According to him, Governor Bala Mohammed declared free education, in order to reduce out-school-children rate in the state. He also warned that, “Any violation of this directive will appropriate sanctions by the ministry.”
