Your Home

Compounds surrounding your home should provide two functions. Firstly create a physical barrier to prevent intrusion and Secondly create a visual obstruction to stop anyone observing activities within the ground floor of your home, garden and car park.

Your Family and You

If you are assessed as being under some degree of threat, always ask yourself:

  • Am I following a set routine in my lifestyle?
  • At what point can I be most vulnerable to attack?

It is important to recognize vulnerable situations and to try to avoid them. There will be some things that you simply can’t avoid like leaving your home, arriving at your place of work, travelling along the same route on a daily/weekly basis. visiting the same place of worship at the same time, collecting family members from regular social or sporting activities, visiting your family home on a regular or predictable basis or eating at a restaurant/hotel on a regular basis.

At these times you must be extra vigilant and on ‘red alert’. As we tend to be creators of habits, each reader must look at his/her lifestyle and family activities to identify his/her own predictable patterns that can create increased vulnerabilities for an attack.

Terrorism

  • Terrorists are not spirits or super humans. They mingle with the community and use the citizens as cover. They can be identified by their conduct and mode of life. When suspicious of any’ person, report immediately to the local police.
  • If you find any object suspected to be an explosive device, do not attempt to remove it. Immediately evacuate the locality and call the police.
  • Remember terrorism has nothing to do with religion, ethnicity or gender. So avoid unwittingly helping the cause of terrorists by seeing them from such erroneous lenses.
  • Defeating terrorism requires the resolve of allcitizens. Remember, the price of liberty is eternal “Vigilance.”
